Doing Justice

From Michael Gorman’s Becoming the Gospel: “Thus justice, biblically speaking, is a dimension of spirituality. And if spirituality is ultimately about having such deep communion with God that one takes on God’s character, then doing justice is one of the richest spiritual experiences and practices. Why? Because the God of the Bible is just and practices justice. This divine justice is rooted in God’s character (YHWH is “a lover of justice”; Ps. 99:4) and God’s hesed, or steadfast covenant love. Accordingly, the corollary covenantal command for God’s people to love their neighbor finds expression in practices of justice. To be like God means to do justice.”
